About us

Heating and Cooling Work Built Around South Bay Homes

CoolVantage Heating & Cooling repairs, maintains and installs heating and cooling systems for homes across San Jose and the surrounding South Bay. Our work covers the full range of what a home comfort system needs: air conditioners, furnaces, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, ductwork and indoor air quality equipment. The Santa Clara Valley has dry summers and mild, damp winters, and inland and southern parts of the valley run noticeably hotter in summer than neighborhoods near the Bay. That means a system in Morgan Hill may work very differently from one in Mountain View, so we look at how your home actually uses its equipment before recommending anything. When something breaks, we find the cause, explain it in plain terms and lay out your options, including whether a repair makes more sense than a replacement. If you're weighing a switch to a heat pump, we can walk you through how local air district rules and current incentives may affect the decision, without pushing you toward equipment you don't need yet.

More about how we work

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Diagnosis Before Recommendations

We track down why a system failed, not just what failed, so the fix addresses the real problem. You'll hear what we found before we suggest any work.

  2. Honest Repair-or-Replace Advice

A working system that only needs a repair should be repaired. When replacement does make sense, we explain why and compare options that fit your home and budget.

  3. Current Information on Rules and Incentives

Air district rules and electrification incentives change. We check what applies right now before including any of it in your plans or your quote.

FAQ

Common questions

Don’t see your question? Call (669) 444-4876 and we’ll talk it through.

Do the new Bay Area air district rules mean I have to replace my gas furnace?

No. The Bay Area Air District appliance rules don't require replacing working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. If your furnace runs well, you can keep repairing and maintaining it.

What changes for furnace replacements in 2029?

Under the Air District's Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when a furnace is replaced after that date. If your furnace is aging, it's worth thinking about your options before it fails.

Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It isn't available for new installations after that date.

Are there local incentives for switching to a heat pump?

Bay Area homeowners can check BayREN and their local clean energy provider for current heat pump and electrification incentives. Amounts and availability change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before we include it in a quote.

Is there a deadline for replacing gas water heaters?

Under Rule 9-6, the zero-NOx date for small water heaters was set for 2027. The Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay it, so check the current rule before you plan a water heater replacement.

Should I repair my air conditioner or replace it?

It depends on what failed, how the system has been running and how your home uses cooling. Homes in hotter inland and southern parts of the valley often lean on their AC more than homes near the Bay. We'll diagnose the problem first, then walk you through both options.

Is a ductless mini-split a good fit for my home?

Mini-splits work well for homes without ductwork, for additions, and for rooms that stay too hot or too cold. We'll look at your layout and how you use each space before recommending one.

How often should my HVAC system be serviced?

Many homeowners schedule service on the heating side before the damp winter months and on the cooling side before summer heat sets in. Regular maintenance helps us catch worn parts and airflow problems before they turn into breakdowns.
